Visszavonták az M1 Híradó új vezetőinek megbízását
Recent developments within Hungary’s public media have taken a surprising turn, as the leadership of the M1 Híradó has found itself under scrutiny. The Duna Médiaszolgáltató Zrt. announced that the recently appointed főszerkesztő, Hajdú Gábor, along with müsorvezető Borsa Miklós, has had their appointments rescinded. This decision was communicated through an official press release, highlighting the shift in direction for the public service broadcaster.
Initially, on Monday, the media company expressed intentions to rejuvenate its image, aiming to align the M1 channel with public service news editorial principles. Hajdú Gábor was set to lead this transformation as főszerkesztő, marking Borsa Miklós’s return to the screen after over a decade away.
However, just a day later, a follow-up statement shed light on the reasoning behind the sudden cancellations. The Duna Médiaszolgáltató emphasized the necessity of rebuilding societal trust in public media: „The public media’s news service must restore the society’s confidence.” They aspire to create a media landscape that adequately addresses societal needs during this transitional phase.
Hajdú Gábor, who previously worked with Hír TV and Echo TV, along with communication roles within business circles linked to Mészáros Lőrinc’s corporation, faced immediate backlash following his appointment. Borsa Miklós, on the other hand, has a controversial history with the M1 Híradó, as he was physically attacked during his previous tenure, an incident that resulted in him stepping away from the public eye for several years.
The announcement of their appointments had garnered attention, even drawing comments from high-ranking officials, including Magyar Péter, the prime minister, who remarked, „I would not think so,” hinting at doubts regarding the appointments in light of the public’s response.
As this situation unfolds, the focus remains on how the leadership transitions will affect the future of Hungary’s public broadcasting and its relationship with viewers, alongside the ongoing quest for credibility and trust within the media landscape.
